San Diego Comic-Con does have a different spirit this year as it is harder to connect with fans over the computer through previously recorded video chats. Yet, the drive to connect is what makes this event special regardless of how it happens. Comic-Con Thursday typically feels like the launch into the weekend and this is just the same. The first full day of programming included some major updates about the Star Trek Universe, Van Helsing, and even a tribute to Bugs Bunny who is now 80 years young!

Star Trek Universe

This year CBS All Access grouped all their Star Trek content into one place. Hearing from the cast of Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, and Star Trek: Lower Decks fans got a glimpse of what’s to come from the franchise.

Lower Decks will be coming to CBS All Access on August 6th (US only) as the first animated Trek series in decades. The show is from one of the minds behind the mega-hit Rick & Morty, so this is an animated Star Trek geared to adult fans. Also announced is the forthcoming Star Trek: Prodigy that is coming to Nickelodeon.

With stalls in production for both Picard and Discovery fans will need to check out these new shows as a place to pick up their Trek fix. It is safe to assume Picard and Discovery will not be releasing for some time, so no official premiere date has been announced for either new season.

Check out the Star Trek Universe panel below and the first look for Star Trek: Lower Decks shared during the panel.
