It’s been a little while since the crew of The Orville graced our screens. But now we have The Orville: New Horizons trailer!

The show went off the air following its season two finale in April 2019. Then at San Diego Comic Con, series creator and star, Seth MacFarlane, announced the show would be leaving Fox for Hulu. The reasoning was to tell a bigger story with longer episodes that could embrace the sci-fi show’s ambitions without the restraint of a broadcast budget. So now, add together an extended production schedule, a pandemic, and a lengthy post-production process and you will understand why it has taken three years for The Orville Season 3. The series’ new name is The Orville: New Horizons.

Previously, we shared the sneak peek MacFarlane released as a consultation prize for fans when the release date was moved from March to June. The show is an original sci-fi series making guessing the future plotlines challenging to predict. There is no book, comic, or predecessor the show uses as a guide, just pure original TV – how novel. Its episodic structure is a breath of fresh air in the streaming landscape of 12-episode arcs. The Orville takes many tropes from Star Trek, but that franchise has fallen short of expectations for many fans while The Orville satisfies the ST fandom. The show’s success with season 2 resulted in a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
