The Last Ship Season 5
After five years, the TNT’s drama The Last Ship sails into its final mission as the show returns for its final season on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy), Bridget Regan (Agent Carter) and Adam Baldwin (Firefly, Chuck) star. After a global epidemic that decimated the world’s population.
The initial mission of the fictional USS Nathan James (DDG-151), was to find a cure for the virus that created the epidemic, and save what was left of humanity. Since that mission’s completion, the show has become more civilized, as various populations attempt to rebuild the world…but civilized may be an overstatement as is so often the case in post-apocalyptic fiction.
In season five, the recovering world faces continued global political unrest in the face of uncertainty as power structures remain impaired, and new powers seek to assert themselves. Tom Chandler (Dane) retired and his former crew scattered, but many remain in the Navy. We will find Sasha Cooper (Regan), Lieutenant Danny Green (Travis Van Winkle), SBS WO-N Wolf Taylor (Bren Foster) and Sergeant Azima Kandie (Jodie Turner Smith) on a covert mission in Panama. Wrongly blamed for an attack on the Panamanian president, their relationship to the US creates new relationship issues. The Nathan James must fight to prevent invasion by Latin America—and the next world war. Season five is The Last Ship at its most epic, upping the ante on action and excitement, but at its core, it underscores the costs of prolonged war and the toll it takes on the heroes who fight it.
The fourth season of The Last Ship ranked high on last summer’s top five cable dramas, reaching a total of 24 million viewers on TNT’s linear, VOD and digital platforms.
The Last Ship also stars Charles Parnell (Pariah), Travis Van Winkle (Heart of Dixie), Marissa Neitling (Leverage), Christina Elmore (Fruitvale Station), Jocko Sims (Masters of Sex), Bren Foster (Days of Our Lives), Kevin Michael Martin, Emerson Brooks (Captain America: Winter Soldier) and Jodie Turner Smith (Newness).
The series is produced by Turner’s Studio T in association with Platinum Dunes, whose partners include Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, all of whom serve as executive producers on The Last Ship. Co-creators Hank Steinberg and Steven Kane also serve as executive producers, along with director Paul Holahan. Kane served as showrunner for seasons four and five, having previously worked alongside Steinberg for the first three seasons.
